Independent Living
When it comes to ensuring the well-being of your loved one and supporting them in their Autumn years, there are numerous senior care options available beyond the traditional choices of nursing homes or assisted living facilities. One such alternative is independent living communities, which are sometimes called active adult communities. These communities offer a warm and inclusive environment for seniors seeking increased socialization opportunities, without the burden and cost of home ownership. While residents may not require extensive medical attention, they can still benefit from some assistance with everyday tasks and upkeep. Sometimes known as retirement homes or 55 and over apartments, these communities do not offer health\nursing care or assistance with activities of daily living (ADL’s) such as bathing, dressing and medication management, so those who require that type of assistance may see an assisted living community as a more suitable option.
Throughout the country, independent living communities predominantly offer private senior apartments, typically featuring one or two bedrooms with fully or partially furnished kitchens and laundry facilities. What sets these communities apart is the abundance of opportunities for residents to explore their interests and form relationships with others. Whether it’s movie nights, art classes, or shared meals in communal dining rooms, seniors have a myriad of options to engage and interact. What makes independent living truly special is the freedom residents have to come and go as they please, as there are no limitations on their living arrangements. The core objective of independent living is to cultivate a sense of community, enabling individuals to form meaningful relationships with like-minded peers, while still maintaining fulfilling private lives.
